And Now: A Yankee Fan Fondly Recalls New York’s Last Championship*

I am touched by the passionate responses concerning my last blog post, “A Yankee Fan Fondly Recalls Boston’s Last Championship”. In many of those responses I was reminded that New York’s title drought exceeds Boston’s by a number of years. In an effort to show that I’m a good sport, here’s a list of events, happenings, and trends from that long ago yet historic championship season of 2000.

• Ted Williams’ head was numb, but not yet frozen.

• Big Papi was not a member of the Red Sox yet.

• Nor was Manny.

• Neither was yet on PEDs.**

• Boston’s greatest moment remained a walk-off home run by Carlton Fisk in game 5 of the 1975 World Series which they eventually lost to the Cincinnati Reds.

• Boston’s Central Artery hadn’t started taking a leak yet.

• The Bruins missed the playoffs.

• So did the Celtics.

• And so did the Patriots.

• Conan O’Brien gave his infamous Harvard Commencement address.

• Bucky Dent turned 49.

* Scheduled to be updated next week.

** As far as we know.

Go Yankees.
